Thanks Mr. Strather!

At first, Linda Davis was speechless. Then, the tears flowed.

As the 31-year-old New Orleans native stood in the living room of a new Highland Park house on Thursday, she struggled to find the right words.

She was surrounded by some of the city's more influential people and they were offering her something that she said she never imagined: a house of her own.

She eventually found the words.

"I just want to thank everybody for showing us so much love," she said, when the tears stopped flowing. "It was real hard -- even before the storm."

Davis and her three sons -- Denzel, 9; Aubrey, 8, and Gaylord, 6 -- are among more than 2,000 people from the gulf coast now living in Michigan.

Detroit real estate developer Herb Strather, chief executive officer of Strather & Associates, and his partners in Project Katrina Relief offered Davis a new, three-bedroom, two-bathroom house to live in rent-free for a year.

Bet you won't see a lot of that in Farmington, West Bloomfield :-)
I asked my friend in Farmington if they were taking any of folks in from New Orleans. He laughed for half a minute. Graveyard humor.
