Had Enough?

Highland Park is about to get screwed. Forces in Ferndale are conspiring to take over Royal Oak Township fire - and the mutual aid agreement the Township fire department has to assist Highland Park Fire will be gone. When the take-over happens, do you think Ferndale will set foot in Highland Park to help in a fire emergency like the Township does? Not a prayer! Highland Park will be abandoned! I, for one, have had enough of Ferndale City Manager tom barwin's (248.546.2360) arrogance and his disregard and disrespect for black communities for the sake of building his own resume. In the guise of being "innovative," he has preyed upon the vulnerabilities of two cities in financial trouble, and is putting many, many lives in danger. Will your family or property be his next victim? According to channels 2, 4, and 7, the Township firefighters (you know, the ones who are on the spot to help Highland Park with fires) have already been told they will be out of a job come July 31. The men whose job it is to protect us and willingly come to our aid, who KNOW this take-over is filled with safety concerns, will have no say. They are totaly against this take-over, as are the Ferndale firefighters. Township Supervisor Morgan was on the news talking about "regionalization and consolidation" - but he needs to get out his dictionary and choose some different words - there is no "region" here - only the arrogant, hostile take-over by the city of Ferndale - and there is no consolidation, which means to unite, build and make stronger - how can 26 firefighters from Ferndale, who also protect Pleasant Ridge, replace the 19 firefighters dedicated to the Township without any ill effects? I smell the smoke of an impending disaster.
I've had enough and will travel up Woodward to the Ferndale council meeting tonight at 7:30 to let them know it. It is on their agenda for tonight - Monday. This will be a disaster for the Township and Highland Park!!! Highland Park will be totally screwed and the Township can wait in line if they need help and Ferndale has a fire. Its time for us to ALL wake up and smell the . . .
People need to TELL FERNDALE AND TOM BARWIN NO!!!! You there?

Hey Had enough, it not about a black communities, or white ones for that matter, it about a city of different people, trying to rebuild what the had, and being screwed by outsiders. do you think the white trash in Ferndale, get treated any better?
I'm there

You're right, my friend. I guess its not about black/white. The white trash in ferndale can join the burned out people of highland park on tom barwins bullet train to pontiac. Just don't make a stop in Ferndale - barwin, the great white savior of the poor and downtrodden don't want us in his town, we don't fit the image -
Outsiders never did anything for me, just tried to take what I had. First oak park, now ferndale. Soon there won't BE no township to protect, and highland park is right behind.

Gotta love Ferndale..."Had enough" and "I'm there" ... anything to report?

Only a few more stamps of approval are needed before Ferndale can take over Royal Oak Township's fire protection services.

During Monday's council meeting, Ferndale city officials approved a two-year contract that could close the township's fire department and put its 19 firefighters out of work.

Deal to share firefighting with township hits a snag

Ferndale's tentative agreement last month with Royal Oak Township to handle the township's firefighting duties has hit what insiders say is a minor snag.

The Ferndale City Council approved the deal, 5-0, after nearly 30 years of on-and-off talks with the township.

But township trustees, who hope disbanding their fire department will save money, pulled the proposal from the agenda at their July 28 meeting because of concerns that the Ferndale firefighters union had yet to go along, Township Treasurer Cynthia Phillips said Tuesday.
